Como Province Association of Clerks
On the headed paper of the Cantoni architects’ firm Sant’Elia sketched the plans for the project for the new headquarters of the Como Società dei Commessi [Como Province Association of Clerks in Trade and Industry] (1914). These drew on the design for the bank Banca cooperativa di Udine (1907) by D’Aronco and the headquarters of the Como Società Bancaria [bankers’ society] (1908-11, later extended in 1932), built by Federico Frigerio and Luigi Catelli on the corner of Via Perti and Via Vittorio Emanuele II. The project also had an Austrian influence, particularly in its decorative work and the squared edges in the style of Hoffmann. The commission probably came from the Como Province Association of Commercial and Industrial Clerks which had had its office since nineteen ten at Via Rezzonico 5 where the two streets met.
